Document scanners convert paper documents to an electronic image that can be stored on various electronic media, saving space and time to manage and retrieve information. They come in a wide variety of size and function, from stand-alone desktop models for individual needs to high-volume production scanners for enterprise solutions.

Microfilm scanners convert 16mm, 35mm roll microfilm, COM fiche, jacketed microfilm and aperture cards to an electronic image. They range from small, low-volume scanners to high-volume production scanners.

|
Large format scanners convert any document larger than 12” x 12” to an electronic image. Examples include blueprints, reprographic artwork, maps, photos, posters, sketches, books, legal documents, etc.

Microfilmers convert paper documents to microfilm format. Some organizations still require microfilm because of its long-life record retention capability in a physical format. These are commonly used in government applications. Digital reader-printers take a microfilm image and convert it to an electronic image, to provide the same storage and retrieval benefits as traditional document scanners.
